Sainsbury’s to hire 20,000 seasonal staff in run-up to Christmas

Sainsbury’s has announced plans to create 20,000 seasonal jobs across its stores and home delivery services in the lead-up to Christmas as it prepares for the busy festive period.

Some 18,000 roles will be within Sainsbury’s while an additional 2,000 will be based at Argos.

Sainsbury’s said the temporary staff members will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of stores, warehouses, and online fulfilment centres during the Christmas period. Responsibilities will include assisting customers in-store, restocking shelves, or managing the picking and delivery of online orders.

Speaking of the recruitment push, Prerana Issar, chief people officer at Sainsbury’s, said: “As the festive season draws near, we’re getting ready to create a memorable Christmas for our customers – and our brilliant colleagues play a central role in bringing this to life.”

“It’s a fantastic opportunity to meet great people and acquire skills that will stay with you long after the festive season. Our amazing store colleagues are essential in making Sainsbury’s the first choice for customers, ensuring that good food is joyful, accessible, and affordable however households choose to celebrate.”

Seasonal staff will be employed on fixed-term contracts ranging from three to 12 weeks.

Earlier this month, Marks & Spencer announced that it was recruiting for 11,000 seasonal positions.
