Sainsbury’s appoints Katie Bickerstaffe and Steve Hare as non-executive directors
Sainsbury’s has announced that Katie Bickerstaffe and Steve Hare will join its board as non-executive directors following its AGM on 3 July.
Bickerstaffe has held numerous leadership positions in retail, including co-chief executive of M&S, executive chair and chief executive designate at SSE, and chief executive of UK & Ireland at Dixons Carphone. Her career has also included working with Somerfield Stores, Dyson, PepsiCo and Unilever.
She is currently a non-executive director of both Aberdeen Group and Barratt Redrow, and a non-executive director and senior independent director of Diploma.
Meanwhile, Hare is an experienced digital and tech business leader and is currently chief executive of The Sage Group. Prior to this, he worked with Apax Partners as operating partner and co-head of the portfolio support group, and led the finance functions at three listed UK companies, including Invensys, Spectris and Marconi.
Martin Scicluna, chair of the supermarket, said: “I am delighted to welcome Katie and Steve as non-executive directors. Their extensive experience and leadership in retail and digital businesses will be invaluable to our board.
“Katie’s strong perspectives on digital transformation and Steve’s expertise in leading tech businesses will greatly contribute to our strategic direction.
“We look forward to their insights and contributions as we continue to drive Sainsbury’s forward.”
Sainsbury’s has also announced that Brian Cassin will not be seeking re-election at the AGM after nine years’ service. He will be succeeded as senior independent director by Adrian Hennah, who has been a member of the board since April 2021.
Scicluna added: “I would also like to thank Brian for his commitment and dedication to Sainsbury’s. He has been on the board for nine years and throughout his time with us he has provided invaluable leadership. We wish him all the best for the future.”
