Paddington becomes a ‘bear’ necessity after tea party with Her Majesty

John Lewis saw online searches for Paddington on its website rise by nearly 2000% after the lovable bear was seen slurping from a teapot spout at Buckingham Palace and offering Her Majesty the Queen a marmalade sandwich as part of the Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

In addition, sales of the soft toys rose by 178%.

Paddington was not the only product in high demand as the John Lewis Partnership has also revealed that recipe searches for marmalade on waitrose.com increased by 46%.

Waitrose executive chef Martyn Lee said: “Marmalade hasn’t been the most fashionable of preserves over the past few years, so let’s hope that Her Majesty and Paddington will put it back on breakfast tables – or in sandwiches – across Britain.”
