Ocado launches first customer fulfilment centre in North America
Ocado has launched its first customer fulfilment centre in North America as it works with food retailer Sobeys to develop an online grocery business in Canada using the Ocado Smart Platform.
Called Voilà by Sobeys, the new business has begun testing orders at the state-of-the-art facility in Vaughan in Ontario. If successful, the pilot scheme will be followed by a phased rollout to customers in the Toronto area.
The new site is Ocado’s second international customer fulfilment centre to go live since the beginning of March as the retailer ramps up its work on grocery home delivery services for international partners.
Luke Jensen, chief executive of Ocado Solutions, said: “This is a milestone moment for Ocado Solutions. Within almost a month, we have brought two international customer fulfilment centres live and on-time with partners in Canada and France. These are testament to the amazing working partnerships we have developed, particularly under recent challenging circumstances with covid-19.”
“As Sobeys’ first customer fufilment centre builds capacity and extends to reach households across the Greater Toronto Area, it will be instrumental in bringing Ocado’s world-beating quality of service to customers in Canada for the first time.”
Ocado is also planning to launch a customer fulfilment centre in the province of Quebec and Ottawa area.
Sobeys operates more than 1,500 stores across Canada.
