Ocado appoints Mark Richardson to head up new business unit
Online grocer Ocado has appointed Mark Richardson as chief executive of a new business unit that will extend the retailer’s product offering from groceries into new market sectors.
The retailer’s chief executive Tim Steiner said the new Re:Imagined Ocado Smart Platform will help it expand beyond its core grocery focus with a product range that will be capable of being adapted for automated storage and retrieval systems used in a range of market sectors.
The move follows Ocado’s acquisition of Kindred Systems and Haddington Dynamics in 2020.
Richardson is currently Ocado’s chief operating officer but will shortly be taking up the new role.
Steiner said: “I am delighted to confirm that Mark Richardson will lead this new venture. Mark is a 20-year Ocado veteran and during this time has been responsible for teams spanning technology, platform implementation, and logistics. He also has extensive experience of working directly with the materials handling equipment sector.”
