M&S reopens Brixton store after seven-month transformation
M&S has reopened its store in London’s Brixton following a seven-month transformation.
In addition to selling food and groceries, the store on Brixton Road features a new fresh market-style foodhall where customers can find a selection of fresh breads and pastries that are baked throughout the day. It also offers takeaway hot drinks, including barista-made coffee such as M&S’ Magic Coffee.
Other additions include a Hot Chicken Counter, where customers can buy whole BBQ and butter basted chickens, and a widened food to go offering including sandwiches, salads, snacks and drinks.
Manager Mark Aldridge leads the store’s 100 strong team and is currently celebrating his 20th year with the retailer.
Speaking of the opening, he said: “It’s fantastic to open the doors today and welcome back our customers. We’ve been part of the Brixton community for over 100 years and it is brilliant to be unveiling the best possible store with the most amazing M&S products, offering innovation, trusted value and that all important M&S magic.”
Other highlights include a transformed Flower Shop and Wine Shop, as well as Click and Collect for online clothing, home and beauty orders.
The launch also provided an opportunity to mark 100 years of M&S in Brixton as this was the first store that the retailer opened in London.
The foodhall will also house interior artwork and external mural designed by Create Not Destroy, a group of creatives known for their roots in early London graffiti art culture.
The transformation is part of a £30 million investment by M&S in its London stores. Since April, the retailer has opened new foodhalls in Friern Barnet and Sidcup and has also refreshed its shops in Chancery Lane, Teddington and Blackheath.
