Morrisons appoints Jeremy Townsend as non-exec director
The Morrisons supermarket chain has appointed Jeremy Townsend as a non-executive director with immediate effect.
Currently chief financial officer of Rentokil, Townsend was previously group finance director of Mitchells & Butlers and prior to that held various senior finance positions at Sainsbury’s. He will be retiring from his Rentokil role later this year.
Townsend has also been appointed to the audit, corporate compliance & responsibility, nomination and remuneration committees at Morrisons and will become chair of the audit committee on 10 September. He will succeed Belinda Richards who is stepping down from the Morrisons board to take up a new role as independent non-executive director of Jupiter Fund Management.
Andrew Higginson, Morrisons chairman, said: “I would like to thank Belinda for her significant contribution to the board over the last five years, and to wish her well in her new role. I am delighted to welcome Jeremy to Morrisons. He brings extensive financial and industry experience and is ideally suited to chair the company’s audit committee.”
