Marks & Spencer rolls out fully recyclable takeaway cups to all of its cafes

Marks & Spencer will be rolling out its paper fibre takeaway coffee cups to all M&S Cafes from next month.

In October, M&S Food became the first major high street coffee retailer to offer its takeaway coffee and hot drinks in 100% paper, plastic-free, and easily recyclable coffee cups.

After initially being made available at 20 M&S sites, the cups will be offered in over 300 M&S stores, including M&S Cafés, vended coffee points and marketplaces within its Foodhalls, from April.

Alicia Thompson, director of hospitality at M&S Food, said: “Our customers care strongly about reducing plastic and they’ve supported our move to paper fibre cups. With no impact to the taste or temperature of their hot drink – and now 100% recyclable – this is one of the ways we’re supporting our customers to make small changes in their everyday lives, which have a big impact on the environment.”

The change is expected to remove over 20 million units of plastic from the M&S Food business every year.
