Majestic’s organic wine sales almost double in a year
Majestic has seen its organic wine sales almost double over the past year after availability and demand exceeded expectations.
Sales of the products across its retail and on-trade supply businesses surged by 94% in the year to July 2024 compared to the same period a year earlier.
The retailer offered a total of 169 organic wines to its retail customers, Wine Club subscribers and on-trade partners in the period, compared to 124 a year earlier.
Majestic said an increasing number of wine producers making the switch to organic has helped to improve the quality, variety and prominence of its organic range.
Elizabeth Kelly MW, Majestic buying manager, said: “More and more wineries are switching to organic viticulture every year, so there is definitely an upward trend in the volume of high-quality, unique, organic wines being produced around the world.”
The retailer predicted last August that its organic wine sales would double within three years. However, the rate of growth has outpaced forecasts following improvements in the depth and quality of its range.
Kelly added: “We are delighted to be bringing an increasing number of those to Majestic for our customers to discover and buy – particularly at a time when many of them are actively seeking organic options. That’s a trend we expect to continue in the coming years and we believe we have curated the best selection of organic wines in the UK market to fulfil that demand.”
