Majestic to expand into the Channel Islands
Majestic is to expand into the Channel Islands as it continues to invest in extending its physical store network.
On 30 April, the specialist wine retailer will open a 5,695 square foot shop in The Powerhouse on Jersey’s Queen’s Road.
The store will be staffed by Jersey locals and led by store manager Kristina Kaselj who holds a Wine and Spirit Education Trust Level 3 qualification. She has extensive experience in wine retail gained from working for another wine merchant on the island.
Majestic Jersey will stock the retailer’s full award-winning range of more than 1,200 wines, including 200 fine wines, as well as beers, spirits, low and no-alcohol alternatives, soft drinks and snacks.
Customers will be offered next-day home delivery from the store’s own electric van and free glass hire for events. The shop will also support Majestic’s fast growing B2B division, Majestic Commercial, through the supply of wines to gastropubs, bars and restaurants on the island.
Majestic said the move represents another vote of confidence from its owner, Fortress Investment Group. Last week, Majestic acquired Vagabond Wines out of administration to bring nine wine bars into its portfolio.
Majestic chief executive John Colley said: “We’ve had our eyes on Jersey for a number of years as part of our growth plans, so we are delighted to be opening a brand new store on the island. We can’t wait to welcome the people of Jersey, share our expert knowledge and help them discover new wines, beers and spirits they will love.
“Expanding outside of mainland UK and onto the Channel Islands is an incredibly exciting milestone for us in our growth strategy – one that underscores our ongoing commitment to investing in bricks and mortar retail. This is the first of many new store openings we have planned this year and we’re looking forward to welcoming even more new customers into the Majestic family
During its 2023/24 financial year, Majestic launched opened branches in Rugby, Newark, Chippenham and Monmouth, as well as two small-format shops in Crouch End and Marlow. The retailer is planning to launch up to one new store per month over the coming years as it accelerates its physical retail expansion.
