Majestic seeks out older colleagues to work in business

Majestic has embarked on a drive to increase the number of older colleagues working in the business.

The specialist wine retailer has teamed up with Rest Less, the digital community for the over 50s, in a move that will see it post vacancies from all functions of the business on the Rest Less job board.

Majestic has seen an 88.5% increase in older colleagues joining the company since the emergence of Covid-19 and the cost-of-living crisis.

Some 35% of Majestic’s 1,500 team members across its UK stores, distribution centre and support centre are now in the age group.

Majestic chief executive John Colley said: “Majestic has always employed a large number of younger colleagues, but we have seen the shape of our workforce change since 2019. More and more older colleagues want to join us and we are keen to welcome even more people from that demographic into the Majestic family.

“We know that older colleagues have a huge amount to offer our business, from exceptional customer service and exemplary store standards, to a passion for wine and a keenness to mentor the younger generation.”

Majestic invests heavily in the learning and development of its store colleagues, all of whom are trained to at least Wine and Spirit Education Trust (WSET) Level 2. Almost 200 Majestic colleagues over the age of 50 now hold these qualifications.
