Majestic on track after uplift in Christmas sales
Majestic Wine grew its group sales by 3.2% year-on-year over the festive period. On an underlying basis the growth was 4.1%.
In a trading statement, the company said Majestic Retail delivered a good result in the ten weeks ending 1 January with sales up 1.2% and by 1.3% on a like-for-like basis.
Rowan Gormley, Majestic chief executive, said: “The fact that we have been able to grow sales and maintain margins shows that our winning formula of fabulous customer service from delightful people and delicious wines at fair prices works even when times are tough.
“We are on track to achieve our £500 million sales goal by 2019, on track to deliver market expectations for the current financial year, and on track to accelerate investment in new customers, new winemakers and more fantastic wines.”
Majestic has also announced that Joshua Lincoln has been appointed retail and managing director of Majestic Retail with immediate effect. Lincoln has been customer director at Majestic Retail since 2016. Prior to that, he oversaw sales and service at the group’s Naked Wines business in the UK, USA and Australia.
Gormley added: “Josh’s promotion is richly deserved having transformed our store network into an entrepreneurial retail proposition during his time as customer director.”
