Majestic names new head of buying

Majestic Wine has promoted Cat Lomax to the position of head of buying.

Lomax joined Majestic in 2016 as senior buyer after stints at Waitrose and Direct Wines. In her new role, she has taken over from Matt Pym who has recently left the company.

Majestic has put own-label and exclusivity at the heart of its transformation plan which are two areas Lomax will be leading. She has been instrumental in the creation of the recent Majestic Loves range as well as numerous new offerings from France. Own brand sales now make up 4.7% of Majestic’s sales.

Lomax will also continue to oversee responsibilities as buyer for New Zealand, of which Majestic have a 14% market share, as well as key French Regions and the USA.

Richard Weaver, buying and merchandising director at Majestic, said: “We are delighted to have Cat overseeing our buying team. She has been instrumental over the last year in overseeing our biggest categories, introducing our most successful Parcels and WIGIGs and revamping many of our key ranges.”

Since starting out in the wine sector in 2009, Lomax has won ‘The Golden Magnum’ from the Champagne Academy and has been recognised as a Commandeur d’Honneur de La Commanderie du Bontemps for services to Bordeaux wine.

“She’s the ideal candidate.” added Weaver. “We’re building an exciting, dynamic buying team at Majestic and it will be great to have Cat at the helm.”
