Majestic appoints John Walden as chairman
Majestic Wine has confirmed that Greg Hodder will be stepping down as chairman at the conclusion of its AGM in August. He will be succeeded by former Home Retail Group chief executive, John Walden.
However, Hodder will remain on the Majestic board for a further six months to ensure a smooth transition.
Ian Harding, Majestic senior independent director, said: “Following an extensive external selection process, it was evident that John was uniquely qualified to become our next chairman. His experience of UK plc corporate governance, digital and multichannel consumer businesses and US markets will be an invaluable asset to the board as we enter our new growth phase.”
Majestic has also appointed Nicholas Devlin to the board as an executive director in the new position of group chief operating officer. He will also continue to act as president of Majestic’s US Naked Wines division.
Harding added: “The group has ambitious growth plans and now is the time to strengthen the leadership team with this newly created chief operating officer role to help successfully deliver our full potential. It is a testament to the quality and depth of the people in our business that we have been able to make this an internal appointment.”
