Lidl unveils six new stores

Lidl has opened six new state-of-the-art stores today as it looks ahead to the Christmas rush.

While four shops have launched in the new locations of Shinfield, Bovey Tracey, Downham Market and Stirchley, a new store in Connah’s Quay has replaced the old Lidl in the town and a Chessington shop has reopened following a refurbishment and extension.

Richard Taylor, chief development officer at Lidl GB, said: “As we head into December, opening six stores in a single day highlights the incredible momentum behind our expansion in our 30th year.

“This milestone reflects our unwavering commitment to delivering affordable, high-quality products to more households across the country, especially at a time of year when value matters most.”

The news follows the opening of new shops in Bristol, Hemel Hempstead, Ipswich and Hoxton last month and comes ahead of two stores opening in Forest Gate and Caterham next week

Lidl is planning to launch a further eight new stores at the start of 2025 and around 40 more in the next financial year.

Taylor added: “Our teams are relentlessly pursuing expansion opportunities and, with every store we open, we’re taking another step towards making this vision a reality.”

Earlier this month, Lidl revealed it had secured an additional 326,000 shoppers in the last financial year. Today, the supermarket has reported a surge in early demand for Christmas products with sales of its Deluxe British Pigs in Blankets up by a over 100%.
