Lidl stores in England to open an hour later on day after 2024 Euros final

Lidl is to open its stores in England later than usual on the day after the nation’s football team plays in the final at the European Football Championship.

With the match between England and Spain taking place in Berlin on Sunday 14 July, the supermarket said its stores will open one hour later on Monday 15 July to enable staff to enjoy post-match celebrations.

Normal hours will resume on Tuesday 16 July.

Ryan McDonnell chief executive of Lidl GB, said: “We know how much this game means to England fans, and we want to ensure that our colleagues have the chance to celebrate such a significant moment in English football history.

“We couldn’t achieve our goals without our colleagues, so in recognition of their hard work and dedication, this move will allow them to join in the excitement and show support for the England team, and we wish them the best of luck for the big game.”

Tesco will also be adjusting its opening hours and is set to close its Express convenience stores on Sunday at 7.30pm instead of the usual 10pm or 11pm to allow colleagues time to watch the game.
