JD launches in-store bakery convenience offering
Chinese online retail giant JD has launched a new convenience store offering in the form of an in-store bakery in Beijing.
Part of JD’s New Markets division, the new JD Convenience Store brand provides a one-stop solution to shop owners who would like to introduce a bakery within their stores. JD’s service includes branding, design and management as well as well as advice on store location and product selection, operations and value added services.
The Beijing bakery sells products such as doughnuts and bread that are all baked on site at the store. JD said it follows a strict process for the selection and training of its bakers who are required to develop new products on a regular basis. The bakery also offers cake customisation.
Enlong Ba, general manager of retail business at JD New Markets, said: “Leveraging JD’s strengths in merchandise, service and technology, we have enabled JD Convenience Store solution to integrate multiple store formats. In the future, our partners can freely select appropriate store functions according to neighborhood consumption demands combined with investment and profit considerations, and build diversified convenience store formats.”
