Co-op launched four new convenience stores last week
Co-op launched four new convenience stores at the end of last week as part of its ongoing growth plans.
These included three new Co-op operated sites in Plaistow in east London, Peterborough and Walton le Dale, and a franchise store at Platts Corner in Billingshurst which forms part of the company’s agreement with petrol forecourt business, EG On The Move.
All of the sites offer self-serve coffee and bakery goods as well as fresh, chilled produce, sandwiches and food-to-go. The shops also stocks Fairtrade products, flowers, ready meals, pizzas, and free-from, vegan and plant-based products.
Added services at the sites include InPost Lockers and Costa Coffee Express at all of the Co-op operated sites and ATMs. In addition, the Platts Corner and Walton le Dale shops also offer electric vehicle charging.
The Co-op stores also operate online home delivery of groceries, either through the retailer’s own online shop or through its partners Deliveroo, Just Eat and Uber Eat.
Speaking at the launch of the new Co-op in Plaistow, Imran Junoob, Co-op store manager, said: “We are enjoying welcoming our community into their brand-new Co-op – we have had a great response. Our aim is to operate at the heart of local life, and we have worked to develop the range, choice and added services to create a compelling offer to serve our community, conveniently.”
Franchise growth ambitions
The opening of the Billingshurst store forms part of Co-op’s wider franchise growth plans.
