Asda poaches Lidl COO to strengthen executive leadership team
Asda has strengthened its executive leadership team with the appointment of Matt Heslop to lead its stores and depots operation.
He will join the supermarket from Lidl where he has worked for over 20 years and is currently serving as chief operating officer.
At Asda, his responsibilities will include overseeing the 470 convenience stores in the supermarket’s newly established Asda Express division.
Mohsin Issa, Asda’s co-owner, said: “I’m delighted to announce Matt Heslop’s appointment to lead a critical part of our operation and drive the next stage of our growth journey.
“He is an experienced operator with a proven track record in managing substantial retail operations in a fast-growing company.”
As announced back in January, Matt Kelleher will also become part of the leadership team when he joins Asda as chief digital officer in July. In his new role, he will oversee the supermarket’s ecommerce, data and technology functions.
Asda has also announced that Simon Gregg, senior vice president ecommerce and retail south, will be stepping down in July.
