Asda opens new 11,000 square foot store in Hale Barns
Asda has announced one of its largest store openings in recent years with the launch of an 11,000 square foot shop in Hale Barns in Altrincham.
The move forms part of the supermarket’s plans to grow its store estate as it aims to become the UK’s second largest supermarket.
Asda has invested a seven-figure sum in acquiring the lease and re-fitting the store which will stock over 8,000 branded and own-label peoducts spanning fresh food, fruit and veg, frozen items and store cupboard essentials. It will also have an in-store store bakery and offer a selection of hot food from a grab-and-go takeaway.
The store will be the first Asda site to offer an ‘Extra Special’ deli counter from where it will sell a selection of cheese and meats from Asda’s premium range. It will also have food to-go counters offering foods such as Panku Sushi and pizzas.
All 65 employees who previously worked at the store when Booths held the lease have become Asda colleagues.
Feroz Patel, Asda’s, VP retail central, said: “The opening of our Hale Barns store is another example of our ongoing investment to bring Asda’s great quality products and uncompromising value to more communities in the UK.
“Customers shopping at Hale Barns can expect to find wide range of products and high-quality services, including a refurbished café and a premium deli counter offering some of our highest quality products. We look forward to joining the local community and supporting it through our community initiatives for many years to come.”
Asda now has over 1,000 UK stores for the first time in its 59-year history following its conversion of the 470 convenience stores it acquired from EG Group and the Co-op to Asda Express.
