Asda like-for-likes up 1.1% in third quarter
Walmart has reported that supermarket Asda has increased its like-for-like sales by 1.1% in its third quarter.
In the three months to 30 September, net sales rose by 3.6% as customers responded to Asda’s investments in its value proposition.
Walmart president and chief executive Doug McMillon said: “In the UK, Asda delivered positive comp sales again this quarter. The improvements in store experience and price investments are increasing store basket sizes.”
Last month, Asda announced that its deputy chief executive Roger Burnley will be succeeding Sean Clarke as president and chief executive next year.
Commenting on the results, Clarke said: “It’s great to see that we have now delivered our second consecutive quarter of positive like-for-like growth, and the fifth consecutive quarter of continued sales improvement.
“The market environment will continue to be challenging into next year but we’re well placed with clear plans and a renewed level of confidence.”
