Asda invests further in convenience sector with new Calne store

Asda is to open a convenience store in Calne later this month.

Due to launch on 23 May, the shop  will be the retailer’s third ‘Asda Express’ format. The roll out of Asda Express is part of the retailer’s long-term strategy to become the UK’s second largest supermarket by establishing a presence in the fast-growing convenience sector. Asda plans to launch a further 300 Express stores by the end of 2026.

The Calne store will be situated just outside of the town centre on London Road and will offer over 3,000 products including fresh, ambient and chilled groceries, as well as products from Asda’s premium Extra Special range. It will also stock a selection of beers, wines and spirits.

James Laws, senior director of wholesale and convenience at Asda said: “We’re excited to be bringing our new convenience offering to Calne and we’re confident the store will offer customers everything they need – whether that’s popping in for a pint of milk, grabbing a spot of lunch on the go, or buying the fresh ingredients to cook dinner from scratch.

“We’re also delighted to be welcoming 15 new colleagues to the Asda family and thank them for their hard work so far in bringing our convenience vision to life.”

The new Asda Express stores are wholly owned and operated by Asda. They are separate from the Asda On the Move convenience sites, which are located on garage forecourts owned and operated by EG Group.
