Another nine Wilko stores to open as Poundland next weekend

Poundland today confirmed another tranche of former Wilko stores that would begin their Poundland journey this weekend.

In addition to the 20 former Wilko stores it had already opened as a Poundland, the discount retailer today confirmed that another nine stores would open their doors this coming weekend.

The following English and Welsh Wilko stores will open on the morning of Saturday 14 October:

  • 14-16 Church Street, Ripley, Derbyshire, DE5 3BU
  • 26 Deansgate, Bolton, BL1 1BG
  • The Interchange Centre, West Street, Gateshead, NE8 1BH
  • 3 Market Square, Bicester, OX26 6AA
  • Unit SU19 Orton Gate Shopping Centre, Peterborough, PE2 5TD
  • 196A Bradfield Road, Sheffield, S6 2BY
  • Unit 61, Manors Walk Shopping Nall, Cramlington, NE23 6UT
  • 10-13 Cardiff Street, Aberdare, CF44 7DP
  • Shrewsbury Mall, Market Street, Rugeley, WS15 2JJ

Just like the 20 before them, each of these nine new stores will have extensive grocery, household and general merchandise ranges found in every Poundland store.

They will also feature the same Pepco family clothing that is now also rolling out to 500-plus of Poundland’s existing UK and Ireland stores.

The extended clothing range, which sees Poundland offer more kidswear than before, also feature new licensed products including Harry Potter, Gremlins, Tom& Jerry and the Moomins, alongside popular Disney, Warner & Star Wars ranges.

In Bicester, Poundland will close its smaller store at Sheep Street to relocate to the larger former Wilko store capable of offering Poundland’s widest ranges of clothing, homewares and groceries.

Poundland’s retail director Darren Kay said: “We’re moving at pace because we know how important opening these stores are to local communities.

“While stores will get more extensive refits in next year, we’re proud that another nine former Wilko stores will begin their Poundland journeys this coming weekend.”

Poundland continues to prioritise former Wilko colleagues for roles in Poundland and encourage them to follow Poundland’s posts on LinkedIn or visit www.poundlandcareers.co.uk to find details of open roles and how to apply for them.
