Aldi to invest £550 million in store and distribution network
Aldi is to invest more than £550 million in expanding and improving its store and distribution network in the UK this year.
Work will include opening supermarkets in new locations and upgrading existing stores and distribution centres to support growth.
The new shop openings will create over 1,500 new jobs across the country, and there will also be additional job opportunities in Aldi’s current stores, regional distribution centres and UK offices.
Giles Hurley, chief executive of Aldi UK and Ireland, said: “We’re continuing to welcome more and more new customers through our doors with people coming for our low prices but staying for our award-winning quality and British sourcing.
“However, there are still areas of the country that don’t have an Aldi, or that need more or larger stores to meet demand. That is what our 2024 expansion plans aim to address.”
Aldi currently has more than 1,000 stores across the UK as it works towards a long-term target of 1,500.
