Aldi reports record Christmas trading
Aldi has recorded its best-ever Christmas with sales of more than £1.5 billion in the run-up to the big day.
The supermarket saw its sales grow by 8% in the four weeks to 24 December versus the same period in 2022. Friday 22 December was its busiest ever trading day when 2.5 million customers flocked to its stores.
Popular products included alternative roasting joints such as Aldi’s Specially Selected Wagyu Rib Joint and Specially Selected Crackling Gammon Joint. The supermarket also sold 42 million pigs-in-blankets which flew off the shelves in the weeks leading up to Christmas.
Giles Hurley, chief executive of Aldi UK and Ireland, said: “We’re really grateful that so many customers chose Aldi for their main Christmas shop this year.
“As we look ahead to 2024, our promise to customers is that they will always make significant savings on every shop with Aldi because we have the lowest grocery prices in Britain.”
