Aldi delivers on its caged-free egg commitment ahead of time
Aldi has announced that it has delivered on its commitment to sell 100% cage-free eggs more than a year ahead of schedule.
The supermarket has been working with its suppliers to enhance hen welfare in recent years and over the last two years has invested more than £50 million into UK egg farming and producers.
Julie Ashfield, managing director of buying at Aldi, said: “Improving animal welfare is incredibly important to us at Aldi, and by working with our suppliers we have been able to hit our 100% cage-free target more than a year early.
“Our British suppliers are at the heart of our business and without them Aldi wouldn’t be where it is today and we are proud to work with so many UK egg farmers.”
According to data from Kantar for the 12 weeks to 9 June 2024, Aldi now sells more British free-range eggs than any other UK supermarket.
