Zalando to build new fulfilment centre as part of Western Europe growth plans
Zalando is to begin building its first Dutch fulfilment centre this summer as part of its Western Europe growth plans.
It will handle deliveries for customers in the UK, Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, France and Spain.
The facility in Bleiswijk near Rotterdam will span 140,000 square metres and have enough space to store 16 million items. Zalando is expecting to start making deliveries from Bleiswijk in the summer of 2021.
The new site will create around 1,500 jobs in the mid-term. The development is part of a joint venture between Somerset Capital Partners and USAA Realco-Europe.
Zalando will invest €200 million in the centre’s intralogistics. The company said the facility will have the highest level of automation within its network, which currently consists of nine fulfilment centres across Europe.
