Zalando launches new technology hub in Lisbon
Online fashion retailer Zalando has revealed the location of its new international technology hub in Lisbon.
The office in the centre of the Portuguese capital is situated on Avenida da Liberdade and has space for around 60 team members, as well as large common areas to promote cross-team collaboration and foster innovation.
Philipp Erler, SVP of digital experience at Zalando, said: “I am really excited that we are able to add another international tech hub to our portfolio. It is so important that we are able to develop, grow and engage a diverse pool of tech talent within Zalando, to ensure we can provide the best and most personalised digital experience to our customers.”
Zalando said recruitment for the hub is going to plan with employees spanning product managers, UX designers and engineers. The company is continuing to actively recruit frontend software engineers and full stack engineers, who will be working to develop the customer digital experience across Zalando’s 17 European markets. With 16 people already brought on board, the retailer is looking to end 2018 with a team of 35 at the site.
The new office is headed up by Marc Lamik, managing director of Zalando Digital Portugal. He added: “The reason we’ve come to Lisbon is quite simple: as Zalando grows, we need to go where the talent is. Lisbon hosts an excellent tech ecosystem. It allows us to attract the talent we need to enhance the shopping experience for our customers.”
The Lisbon team is working to enable brands and influencers to use the Zalando platform to promote products. They will work closely with Zalando’s digital experience team in Berlin and the teams in Zalando’s other hubs in Germany, Helsinki and Dublin to make the Zalando experience more personalised for customers.
