Uniqlo to accelerate store openings in North America

Uniqlo is to accelerate its expansion in North America with the launch of 20 new stores in the US and Canada next year.

The move will mark a doubling of the current year’s openings as the retailer works towards a target of having 200 shops in North America by 2027.

Uniqlo opened its first store in the US in 2005 and currently has more than 2,400 shops worldwide, including 53 in the US and 19 in Canada.

The company expects to achieve double-digit sales growth in its existing stores in the region in 2023.

Daisuke Tsukagoshi, chief executive of Uniqlo North America, said: “We couldn’t be more excited to enter the next phase of our North American expansion plan and serve more customers in the US and Canada.

“Stores are the heartbeat of our business, where we can engage with our local communities, hear directly from our customers, and best understand their needs to continue to improve and perfect our products. We’re looking forward to a big year ahead.”
