Uniqlo introduces Buy with Purpose programme

Uniqlo has launched  a new feature in the US that rewards customers for purchasing certain sustainably made items with a donation made on the customer’s behalf to one of three non-profit organisations in its partner programme.

Styles featured in the Buy with Purpose programme include the brand’s BlueCycle Jeans, which use a process that reduces the amount of water in the jeans finishing process by up to 99%, and its Dry-Ex and UV protection products that are made with recycled polyester.

When a customer buys any item with a Buy with Purpose stamp either in-store by scanning the app or online at uniqlo.com, they will receive a notification that their purchase has earned a $2 donation credit. They will then be asked to choose which of the brand’s non-profit partner organisations they would like their donation to go to.

The partner organisations include UNHCR (UN Refugee Agency), Charity: Water and Street Soccer USA.

Daisuke Tsukagoshi, Uniqlo USA chief executive, said: “Uniqlo has always strived for continuous improvement, in our apparel, our services, and our contributions to society. As we continue to evolve, our customers remain at the forefront of everything we do. This programme allows us to engage with them in a shared effort to support organisations that are improving people’s lives throughout the world, in linking sustainably-conscious product choices to a greater purpose.”
