British shoemaker Tricker’s has chosen the city of Tokyo for its first store opening outside of the UK.
With the launch coinciding with the brand’s 190th anniversary, the new shop is an exact replica of the Tricker’s store in London’s Jermyn Street.
Based in Northampton, Tricker’s was understood to exporting £20 million worth of shoes to Japan each year by 2015. This marked a 45% increase from 2010.
Tricker’s managing director Martin Mason told the BBC that footwear made in Northamptonshire is revered in Japan. He added: “If you head into Tokyo, Northampton has a really important place.”
The brand is also considering opening stores in countries such as South Korea and the US.
