Primark to open major Milton Keynes store
Centre:mk in Milton Keynes has signed up Primark for a new 75,000 square foot store.
The signing is the largest single letting at Centre:mk in the last 25 years.
The store will occupy an extension of the former BHS shop on Silbury Arcade and will stock the entire Primark range. It will be handed over to the retailer next year when a fit-out will begin.
A spokesperson at Primark said: “Working with the joint owners, we have achieved our longstanding objective of bringing Primark to the city centre in a store that will be emblematic of our brand. We are joining a fantastic line-up of brands at Centre:mk that provide visitors with everything they need.”
Centre:mk is owned by Hermes Investment Management and AustralianSuper. The Primark letting is a key milestone in their “Re-imagining an icon” strategy which includes an investment of over £60 million over three years.
Key parts of the strategy have included the recently completed £10 million refurbishment of Sunset Walk and the award-winning Deer Walk customer experience services. In addition, work is due to start shortly on a new 1,400-space multi-storey car park.
Speaking on behalf Hermes Investment Management and AustralianSuper, Ed Sellick said: “For Centre:mk, this is the single biggest letting since introducing Marks & Spencer 25 years ago. Furthermore, the Centre:mk store, which will be one of Primark’s largest in the UK, will attract significant numbers of new customers from across the region.”
