Primark to open first store in Manhattan as it continues US expansion
Primark has signed a lease for its first store in New York’s Manhattan as it continues its US expansion.
Situated at Herald Square in the Penn District at 150 W 34th Street, the site will serve as a flagship for the fashion retailer.
The store will benefit from footfall from commuters due to it being opposite Penn Station, the most highly trafficked train station in the US.
With over 54,000 square feet of retail selling space across four floors, the shop will offer the retailer’s fashion ranges for the whole family as well as homewares and beauty items.
The site will be Primark’s 11th store in the state of New York once its new store in Queens opens later this year.
Kevin Tulip, Primark US president, said: “Opening a location in the epicentre of US fashion is going to be an exciting milestone for Primark US.
“When the opportunity arose to bring Primark to Herald Square in Manhattan, a store with exceptionally high foot traffic, national influence, and perfectly located to attract customers who already know us from other Primark stores in the boroughs and surrounding areas, we knew it was the perfect fit.”
Ed Hogan, EVP retail leasing at Vornado, added: “The Penn District is transforming into a dynamic new district offering the best in class of retail, restaurants and lifestyle offerings. We are excited for Primark to open its first Manhattan location in this vibrant neighbourhood,”
With over 450 stores across 17 countries, Primark has been expanding across the US for almost a decade. The retailer currently operates 27 stores in 11 states and this will soon rise to 12 when it opens its first store in Texas in McAllen this year.
