Primark appoints Nigel Jones as chief operating officer
Primark has appointed former Tesco senior executive Nigel Jones as chief operating officer.
Jones has joined the fashion retailer from Whitbread where he worked for seven years as group operations and transformation director.
Prior to that, he spent more than 25 years at Tesco where he worked his way up from store manager to a range of senior roles spanning stores, technology, supply chain and procurement, and international operations.
At Primark, he will have global responsibility for technology, the supply chain and logistics, and the business transformation function.
Paul Marchant, chief executive of Primark, said: “Nigel joins us with a wealth of experience of running international operations of significant scale across multiple markets including the UK, Europe, and Southeast Asia.
“With Primark now established in 17 markets we stand to gain significantly from Nigel’s global expertise across the key areas of transformation, technology, supply chain and logistics.”
Primark has over 440 stores across the world and is aiming to reach a total of 530 stores by the end of 2026.
Jones said: “It’s hugely exciting for me to join such a recognised global retailer. I’ve always been struck by the continual growth of Primark and the influence it holds as a leader in the industry. I’m looking forward to leading a dynamic team to help the business achieve its future growth ambitions.”
