Motherland” is coming to Biggleswade

Discount retailer Poundland today announced it would open a new flagship store in Biggleswade on 24 February.

And it’s so proud of the extensive baby and kidswear that’s now available in its larger stores, it’s cheekily called the store ‘Motherland’ in ‘coming soon’ hoardings erected this week.

The 10,000 sq ft ‘destination’ store at Biggleswade Retail Park, SG18 8PS, replaces a former Outfit store that closed over a year ago.

The signage announcing the store’s arrival was put up this week to tell shoppers that this will be a store that carries Poundland’s widest range of clothing – including amazing value baby and kids wear.

Last year Poundland completed the transition to new clothing ranges powered by parent company Pepco Group, bringing its new family fashion offer to almost 600 stores across the UK and Ireland. Just like in Biggleswade, Poundland customers take advantage of new ranges from lifestyle and athleisure brands such as Cardio Bunny and Bekkin, as Poundland reconfigures its stores to offer more baby and kids clothing than ever before.

The move to the new ranges makes Poundland one of the best destinations for family clothing.

Every store with fashion completed a significant move to double the amount of space dedicated to baby and increase kidswear by 50 per cent.

That range expansion in kidswear allows Poundland to take advantage of Pepco’s major licensing partnerships – the new Pepco ranges feature new licensed products including Harry Potter, Gremlins, Tom & Jerry and the Moomins, alongside its popular Disney, Warner & Star Wars ranges.

The move to clothing powered by Pepco has enabled Poundland to double down on the promise of value it makes to its customers.

Biggleswade will carry those extensive clothing ranges alongside a full general merchandise offer and chilled and frozen food.  The store will also bring the wide range of household and grocery items that’s been at the heart of Poundland’s promise of amazing value for over 30 years.

On average, the move to a clothing range powered by Pepco has enabled Poundland to reduce average selling prices by 10 per cent per cent as it takes advantage of the scale of Pepco Group’s buying power for its 4,600-plus stores across Europe.

Pepco ranges continue to be sourced, like the PEP&CO clothing before it, by the Pepco Group sourcing team PGS.

Poundland commercial director Tim Bettley said: “As we’ve expanded our baby and kidswear, our customers have nick named us ‘Motherland’!

“That’s why we’ve used the sign at Biggleswade but across the majority of our UK stores, those same new ranges are available right now. We look forward to showing parents in Biggleswade what a modern Poundland offer now offers.”

Over the past five years, Poundland has grown to be a significant player in the clothing market as it has undertaken a range revolution in its stores.  Other new categories alongside clothing include homewares, and chilled and frozen food giving customers an alternative to supermarkets.
