M&Co to close all of its stores

High street clothing chain M&Co is to close all of its 170 stores, with 2,000 staff losing their jobs, according to reports.

M&Co appointed administrators at the end of last year, for the second time after it first collapsed in 2020.

M&Co was bought out of administration by AK Retail Holdings who also owns Yours Clothing. However, the deal did not include stores themselves. Stores will shut by Easter.

The chain, which was formerly known as Mackays, is based inĀ ScotlandĀ and has stores across the UK. According to the BBC, stores will begin closing in the spring.

Mackays dates back to 1834, when it was established as a pawnbrokers. It made the switch the clothing sales in 1953, before rebranding as M&Co in 2005.
