Matalan strengthens senior team

Matalan has strengthened its senior team with two new hires.

In a first appointment, the fashion and homeware retailer has recruited James Dorling as director of property with responsibility for overseeing its network of over 220 UK stores.

Dorling has extensive experience of both leadership and property management after working with Gymshark, Wilko, Walgreens and Walmart. Earlier in his career, he spent over ten years in property at Tesco.

Matalan has also announced that Keith Down has joined its board as a non-executive director and chair of  its audit committee. This follows Paul Copley’s decision to step down from the board.

Down is a former group finance director of Selfridges Group and also previously worked as chief financial officer of Dunelm. In addition to his role at Matalan, he will continue to sit on the boards of Tortilla and Topps Tiles.

Karl-Heinz Holland, Matalan’s executive chair, said: “We are thrilled to welcome James and Keith to the business, who both join with relevant expertise that will prove highly valuable as we continue to execute our strategic plan.

“I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Paul Copley for his significant contribution to the business, particularly during his time as chair”.
