Marks & Spencer to launch repair service to give quality clothes another life
Marks & Spencer is to launch a new clothing repair service that customers can access online.
The news comes as the retailer unveils its new circularity identity, Plan A – ‘Another life.’, across its stores, website and app.
In a partnership with the SOJO repair and alterations specialist, the retailer is setting up the ‘M&S fixed by SOJO’ online hub where customers will be able to select and book bespoke repair services ranging from zip replacements to invisible knitwear mending.
With prices starting from £5, M&S clothing can be sent, repaired by SOJO and returned to the customer within seven to ten days.
Due to launch in August, the service will support customers in giving their M&S clothes a second life and also reduce textile waste, which is a key pillar of the retailer’s Plan A roadmap.
SOJO was founded in 2021 by Josephine Philips to accelerate change in the fashion industry.
Richard Price, managing director of clothing & home at M&S, said: “At M&S, exceptional quality products are at the heart of everything we do, and we want to ensure that all our clothes are too good to waste.
“Through the launch of our repair service, we’re making it even easier for customers to give their clothes Another life, whether they are using our new repair service or long-standing clothes recycling scheme.”
M&S is also bringing together all of its circularity services into one place through the the Plan A – ‘Another life.’ platform. In addition to the partnership with SOJO, these include its Beauty Takeback Scheme with Handle and its long-running clothes donation partnership with Oxfam.
The platform will also be home to a selection of 60 second ‘how to’ videos covering everything from de-bobbling knitwear to adjusting hemlines.
