eBay’s Love Island partnership boosts popularity of pre-loved fashion

A new survey by eBay has revealed that its partnership with TV programme Love Island has boosted the popularity of pre-loved fashion.

The research shows that nearly half of Love Island viewers said they would consider buying pre-loved over new items after watching this year’s series.

Following the appointment of Love Island contestant Tasha Ghouri as eBay UK’s first ever Pre-Loved Ambassador, the online marketplace is now encouraging consumers to continue buying and selling pre-loved items through its ongoing support of Oxfam’s Second-Hand September campaign.

eBay UK has seen over a 7,000% increase in searches for pre-loved clothing on its site compared with the same period last year.  Furthermore, there have also been 881% more searches for ‘ebay preloved’ on Google and 359% more for ‘ebay pre-loved clothes’ compared to before the show.

In addition, 23% of Love Island viewers have admitted to making their first ever pre-loved purchase this summer.

“We’re thrilled to be able to continue this conversation around pre-loved together with Oxfam and this Second-Hand September, pre-loved pieces of clothing have the power to do more – for your style, for the people, and the planet.”

Oxfam’s Second-Hand September campaign encourages people to buy and sell only second-hand for 30 days.
