Lindex launches project to address gender equality in the supply chain
Fashion retailer Lindex has launched its ‘WE Women by Lindex’ project as it looks to improve the lives of women in its global supply chain and create more equal and inclusive workplaces.
The project will see Lindex work to integrate gender equality into supplier management systems. This will include giving suppliers the training and the support needed to plan, execute, monitor and evaluate business operations from a gender equality perspective.
Anna-Karin Dahlberg, production sustainability manager at Lindex, said: “It’s the women that keep our business moving at Lindex. The majority of the textile workers who make our clothes are women and we are committed to improving their lives. For many years we have worked to drive change in our supply chain through worker engagement and training. Now we will add a top-to-bottom approach, where we work to change the leadership and management style in factories to become more inclusive for women and aware of gender equality issues.”
‘WE Women by Lindex’ is a three-year project developed through a partnership between Lindex and GIZ in co-operation with BSR and local non-governmental organisations.
The project will initially start with 33 Lindex suppliers in Bangladesh as well as 10 non-Lindex suppliers as the retailer looks to promote the concept in the wider industry. Suppliers taking part in the project employ around 82,000 workers of which more than 50% are women. Lindex plans to eventually extend the project to its entire supply chain.
