Lids makes West Midlands debut at Merry Hill

US based Lids has opened its first store in the West Midlands at the Merry Hill shopping centre as part of its international expansion plans.

In addition to offering licensed sports and fashion-oriented headwear and apparel, the 935 square foot shop features a Custom Zone where shoppers can have their new hat or garment custom embroidered. This service includes the option of choosing from the retailer’s numerous player numbers and autographs.

Lids president Britten Maughan said: “Lids is excited to now be open at Merry Hill. We offer a large assortment of hats and jerseys and carry top brands like Nike, New Era, Adidas and Mitchell and Ness. With over 1,000 hat options to choose from we immediately become the best place to buy a hat”

The opening follows a successful period for Merry Hill in which more than 175,000 square feet of new deals have been secured in the current calendar year.

New retailer additions include the likes of Ted Baker and Kurt Geiger and Hollywood Bowl is set to launch a 36,000 square foot space at the centre next summer. In addition, several of Merry Hill’s existing brands have committed to lease renewals and refits, with the likes of H&M, Beaverbrooks, and HMV undertaking significant store refurbishments in 2022.

Alistair Winning, asset manager at Sovereign Centros, added: “The tenant mix at Merry Hill has evolved significantly in the last 12 months, exemplified by the addition of Lids. They bring a unique fashion element to the destination, as a globally renowned retailer of increasingly popular sportswear, that can’t be found anywhere else in the region.

“The strength of Merry Hill is also showcased by the sheer volume of lease renewals and store refurbishments this year; we are proud of the work we have done with our existing tenants to enhance the visitor experience here, as we continue our proactive approach into 2023.”
