JD Sports hails success of its biggest-ever careers event in London

JD Sports saw a record 3,200 young people participate in its biggest ever UK careers event this week at London’s Battersea Park.

The two day JD UP London aimed to offer advice and access to opportunities at JD as part of the group’s commitment to social mobility and supporting young people.

With experiences split across two zones, JD UP is designed around the Gatsby Benchmark to ensure it meets career development objectives while creating a learning experience to inspire future generations.

The event was held for the first time in London following the success of a previous event in Manchester which attracted over 2,000 young people from 15 local schools.

Nicola Kowalczuk, chief people officer at JD, said: “JD UP in London is all about giving young people a real taste of what it’s like to work at JD – from our stores to our HQ and everything in between.

“With more than 60% of JD’s workforce under 25 and 87% under 35, we understand the importance of nurturing young talent, and JDUP London is a key milestone in that ongoing journey, with further plans for international expansion.”

The London event was attended by Minister for Employment Alison McGovern who spoke with students about their aspirations, motivations and challenges, and also to JD colleagues about the opportunities that a career at JD and in retail offers.
