Curated by Nicholas Cullinan, director of the gallery, the exhibition is thought to be the first to explore the influence of Jackson on contemporary art.
It will bring together the works of over 40 artists, drawn from public and private collections around the world, including new works made especially for the exhibition.
Featured artists will include Rita Ackerman, Dara Birnbaum, Candice Breitz, Mark Flood, Isa Genzken, Gary Hume, David LaChapelle, Paul McCarthy, Catherine Opie, Andy Warhol, among many others.
Hugo Boss said selected pieces from its Boss Collection will be inspired by the exhibition which will run from 28 June to 21 October.
To celebrate the opening, Hugo Boss and the National Portrait Gallery will be hosting a private view on 26 June.
