H&M opens first store in Uruguay
High street fashion retailer H&M has expanded further into South America with the opening of its first store in Uruguay.
Situated in Montevideo in the Buceo area of the city, the 3,000 square metre flagship is spread over two levels and sells a selection of fashion items and accessories for men, women, teenagers and children.
Customers waiting in the queue on the opening day received a tote bag with H&M goodies and gift cards. Macu Alfaro, H&M’s country manager for Chile, Perú and Uruguay, officially cut the ribbon together with store manager Emerson Celis, sales manager Roberto de Aranzamendi and H&M’s design director Pernilla Wolhfahrt.
Alfaro said: “We have been waiting for this day for a long time and the response from our customers in Uruguay was definitely worth the wait. I am proud to welcome shoppers to our very first store and we are pleased to offer our customers fashion and quality, at the best price in a sustainable way.”
As part of its expansion plans in the country, H&M will open a second store in Uruguay in the Punta Carretas shopping centre next year.
