H&M opens upsized Metrocentre store

H&M will be placing store services at the heart of its newly upsized store at Gateshead’s Metrocentre.

Spanning 26,000 square feet, the refurbished space offers a refreshed look and feel for H&M that focuses on the customer experience and sustainability.

H&M said it is aiming for the shop to become the “leading store of the Northeast”.

Customers will notice that it has warmer and  more relaxed environment than other H&M stores, as well as a lower volume of products.

Toni Galli, H&M UK & Ireland country manager, said: “It’s always our aim to offer our customers a modern and meaningful shopping experience and we are confident that our new store at the Metrocentre, which offers our beloved Home concept and new services, will offer exactly this.”

The shop will also feature H&M’s Garment Collection and Recycling service which allows customers to donate any unwanted clothes and textiles, by any brand, whilst shopping in-store. All donated items are then recycled. Customers using the scheme will be awarded the retailer’s Conscious Points and will also be given a digital voucher.

Ben Cox of Sovereign Centros, senior asset manager for Metrocentre, added: “The investment by H&M, and introduction of the region’s first H&M Home, demonstrates Metrocentre’s position as a leading retail destination. It is set to be an exciting couple of months for the centre.”
