H&M extends collaboration with Alibaba

After opening its first store in mainland China ten years ago, H&M is to extend its collaboration with Alibaba’s Tmall online marketplace.

The retailer said its Monki brand has made good progress in China since its Tmall launch so the company is now extending the collaboration to include both the H&M brand and H&M Home. H&M is also in advanced discussions regarding the launch of other H&M brands on Tmall.

Karl-Johan Persson, chief executive of the H&M, said: “We are very happy to be able to make H&M even more accessible in mainland China. Tmall is an important complement to our existing physical and digital stores. We see great potential for substantial future growth and Tmall will be an important part of this.”

H&M’s 500 stores and online offering in China now generate around $1.3 billion in revenue.
