H&M discontinues catalogue business

Fashion retailer H&M has discontinued its longstanding catalogue business due to today’s customers’ preference for online shopping.

The catalogue dates back to the Swedish mail-order business called Rowells that H&M acquired in 1980. With catalogue published in just six of H&M’s 72 markets at the time of closure, the retailer said the move to cease publication had been made as a result of changing shopping habits and environmental issues.

In a statement, the company said: “At H&M we are dedicated to sustainability and we are constantly improving our business to reduce our impact on the environment. This is a gradual work and now the turn has come to the catalogue business which we have decided to discontinue with immediate effect.”

H&M operates more than 4,400 H&M-stores in 72 markets and online shopping in 48 markets around the world.
