Gap appoints Mattel’s Richard Dickson as chief executive

US fashion brand Gap has appointed Richard Dickson as its president and chief executive officer.

Due to join the business on 22 August, Dickson was previously president and chief operating officer of Mattel where he played a prominent role in a global transformation that reinvigorated brands such as Barbie, Hot Wheels and Fisher-Price, and also restored the company to growth.

Prior to that, he was president and chief executive of branded businesses at The Jones Group, co-founded Gloss.com, and served as an executive at Bloomingdale’s.

In 2022, he was appointed to the Gap Inc. board of directors.

Gap Inc’s lead independent director, Mayo A. Shattuck III, said: “Richard has invaluable expertise in areas critical to the work Gap Inc. is doing to strengthen the company for the long term. And we are thrilled to have his visionary leadership as the company redefines the future potential of Gap Inc. and its renowned American fashion brands.”
