Frasers Group strengthens board with range of new appointments

Sports Direct owner Frasers Group is making a host of new appointments to its board as it continues to implement its long-term growth and Elevation Strategy.

Effective 26 February, Helen Wright, global chief executive of Sergio Rossi, will be appointed as non-executive director while Frasers’ chief operating officer, David Al-Mudallal, and its managing director of sports, Ger Wright, will become executive directors.

The group has also announced that it intends to appoint Sir Jon Thompson, former chief executive of the Financial Reporting Council, as a non-executive director later in the year.

Michael Murray, chief executive of Frasers Group, said: “I am pleased to welcome Helen Wright to Frasers and to the board and very much look forward to welcoming Sir Jon later this year. Helen’s experience of driving transformation at global luxury brands, combined with Jon’s expertise in corporate governance and major project management, will help shape the execution of our long-term strategy.

“In addition, Ger and David have both made enormous contributions to the ongoing success of our strategy, delivering operational excellence and empowering our business to excel. I am confident that their contribution to the board will help drive Frasers Group to new heights and future success.”

With 25 years’ experience as a senior executive at international luxury and lifestyle consumer brands, Wright is a former chief executive of  Belstaff where she led the turnaround of the lifestyle fashion brand. She has also previously worked as vice president of sales and merchandising, Europe at Ralph Lauren, president EMEI for Fendi/LVMH, and chief executive of Anya Hindmarch. She has been heading up Sergio Rossi since November 2023.

Meanwhile, Al-Mudallal was appointed as chief operating officer of Frasers Group in August 2021 and has been  key driver of the group’s transformative Elevation Strategy. Since joining Frasers in 2017, he has held a range of other senior roles including chief of staff and head of operations.

Ger Wright has been managing director of sports at Frasers Group since 2022 and is currently focused on delivering the next phase of the  division’s omnichannel transformation. She previously worked with Levi’s and Nike.

David Daly, chair of the board at Frasers Group, said: “Much has changed at Frasers over recent years and today is another significant milestone in our transformation as we welcome new high-calibre individuals to the board.

“I know that we will benefit from their leadership and expertise. I’m also delighted that their appointments further diversify our board, ensuring that we have the range of skills and views required to enable the future success of the Elevation Strategy.”
