Former chancellor Nadhim Zahawi in talks to chair Very Group
Former Chancellor of the Exchequer Nadhim Zahawi is understood to be in talks to chair the Very Group.
The news has given rise to speculation that he will stand down as an MP at the general election.
According to Sky News, the MP for Stratford-on-Avon is one of the candidates for the role at the Liverpool-based company, which operates the Very and Littlewoods online shopping brands.
City sources told Sky News that discussions are ongoing and that there was no certainty that Zahawi would take up the position.
Last month, Very Group announced that Dirk Van den Berghe had stepped down after completing his term as chair to focus on other non-executive roles, as well as new opportunities. While the search for his successor is being carried out, Aidan Barclay, a representative of the Barclay family in Very Group, has taken on the role of non-executive chair.
